CAEATI

Preface

If you have a disability, you may be able to apply to a Government body to access funding or funding assistance for a mobility aid. The process may require amongst other steps:

  • Registration with Disability Services (ask your OT)
  • Submission of an application by an Occupational Therapist [OT]
  • Equipment trial
  • … a long wait

The CAEATI funding process is expected to end soon with the introduction of the: National Disability Insurance Scheme.

CAEATI continued

The Community Aids Equipment and Assistive Technology Initiative (CAEATI) funding is part of the Queensland Government Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS).

We are able to provide trial rides to ensure that the equipment is compatible to your needs. We can then follow through with your occupational therapist in specifying and quoting on the equipment for you.

Queensland Recumbent is a registered provider to the Queensland Government Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS) and thereby CAEATI.

If it is difficult for your therapist to attend the trial, we are able to produce video clips and digital photos to provide to your therapist.
This will show that you have spent time on the equipment and are able to manage its use.

You can find more information on the following link: https://www.health.qld.gov.au/mass/community-access/

With reasonable notice we can arrange a suitable trial time whether it is a week day or a weekend.

If you have any questions, please contact us and we will do our best to answer or find the answer for you.

CAEATI/MASS Current subsidy amounts

As of November 2015 Funding is capped at $10,000 per client for a period of 3 years. The scheme allows funding towards the cost of a registered therapist to assist the client with the application process ($500 maximum per application up to a maximum of $800 every 3 years). More detail is provided in the CAEATI Guidelines (PDF, 296kB).

Note: MASS will not pay for repairs [or maintenance] to aids provided by Community Aids, Equipment and Assistive Technologies Initiative (CAEATI), the Vehicle Options Subsidy Scheme (VOSS), or aids where the ownership was transferred to you. You will need to pay for these repairs [or maintenance]. [emphasis added]
